"Red Tails". So has anyone in the King's Universe seen "Red Tails"? If so, is it worth seeing? I'm curious and mildly excited. But I'm still stinging from the dissapointment of "Pear Harbor". As much as George Lucas is talking this up as a serious historical docu-drama; I'm skeptical. I seem to recall Michael Bay saying the same thing about PH.
And the previews aren't helping. Did any of the Tuskeegee Airmen really score a kill against an Me-262 in air-to-air combat? Did they really perform anti-shipping strikes in the Mediterranian? And the flying sequences look an awful lot like a video game. I'm just not sure what we've got here.
The battle record for the Tuskeegee Airmen is impeccable; no bomber lost under their watch. Their arial banter legendary; the military equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters. The German pilots were as stumped by the Red Tails as the Japanese were by the Navajo Codetalkers. There is an account of a B-17 being operated by the legendary KG 200. The Luftwaffe pilot tried to infiltrate an American bomber group to break up the formation and lead the Americans off-course. As the story goes, the Red Tails hailed the mysterious B-17 and upon getting a suspicious response, dispatched the plane without firing a shot.
Are these stories in the movie? I would love it if they were, but my fear is the movie is nothing but cliches and comic book characters and not much realism. I have heard the vehicles look good, so maybe the MVPA was invited to play their part. Thank you for that. I welcome your comments.
