King's Hobby Shop stocks Airscale Model Aircraft Enhancements.

We're carrying a neat new line of products from Airscale Model Aircraft Enhancements.  These products will appeal to aircraft modelers with an eye to finer interior cockpit detail.  The line primarily consists of aircraft instrument faces and cockpit info placards in water slide decal format.  The sets come in three scales, 1/48, 1/32, and 1/24.  They are made for German, British, and U.S. types (Choose Army or Navy).  Instrument faces can be used on back plates for sandwich panels or may be applied directly to solid panel fronts.  The sets are however, somewhat generic, so check your references carefully for proper instrument locations.  Heaven forbid you have an artificial horizon where a tachometer is supposed to be!  Airscale also makes photo etch metal instrument bezels and general cockpit details.  We will be carrying these as well in the near future.  The decal sets range in price between $9.95 and $14.95 depending on subject and scale.  Check out images of these new decal sets below.

Tamiya 1/32 F4U-1 Corsair Test Shot Has Arrived at King's Hobby Shop!

Exciting news!  We've received a test shot of the new Tamiya 1/32 F4U-1 "Birdcage" Corsair.  A quick glance at the parts and instructions reveals that this kit exceeds our expectations.

This kit is first rate!  Instructions indicate that 39 colors will be required to finish this project.  Color call outs for fuselage interior and cockpit reflect the most current research on the subject.  Tamiya has you mix salmon pink (essentially oxide red) as found on period artifacts for the kit's fuselage interior.  This goes against all prior kits which have you use various tones of zinc chromate greens or yellows, and is inaccurate for the early Corsair.  Tamiya also has you mix dull dark green (very close to FS34092) for the cockpit color instead of the traditionally thought interior green.  Thank you Tamiya for doing your homework.

Kit highlights include:

- Highly detailed cockpit assembly.
- Optional folded or extended wings.  (Instructions include separate "chapters" for each option.)
- Intricate yet very sturdy wire reinforced landing gear struts and complete wheel bays.
- Retracted landing gear option with "in flight" display stand.
- Complete twin row Pratt & Whitney R2800 engine with push rods (front and back rows), accurate gear reduction housing, and correct early magnetos and starter.
- Optional open or closed cowl flaps.
- Optional continuous radius or abbreviated radius cowl flaps (this is a first in an F4U kit).
- Photo-etch metal detail parts included.
- Decal sheet includes markings for three "Birdcage" Corsairs.

I'm sure there's a lot more to talk about but that's all the time I've got for now.  We invite you to come down to the store and check this jewel out for yourself.

Also remember we're offering 25% off the list retail price for this kit if you pre-order from us.  Check this link for more details.  http://kingshobbyshop.blogspot.com/2013/05/save-25-on-new-tamiya-132-f4u-1-corsair.html

Latest Valiant Wings Title Best Modeller's Guide For Early Bf 109 Variants

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 Early Series (V1 to E-9 including the T-Series):  A complete Guide To The Luftwaffe's Famous Fighter

Stock number:  6292-005
Price:  $39.99

Valiant Wings Publishing has produced several outstanding modeller's reference guides in its Airframe & Miniature series.  Number 5 covers Bf 109 variants including prototypes through the E-9 and T-series.  The book provides an excellent balance between historical technical data and information for model builders.  Chapters 1 thru 7 cover technical history while chapters 8 thru 11 provide modeller information.  Appendices include comprehensive listings of kits, decal sheets, and aftermarket detail sets for all Bf 109 versions covered in the book.

Specific highlights in this volume are provided by the publisher below:

  • 208 pages packed with vital information that no active aviation
    modeller should be without
  • 40+ pages of technical information
  • 20+ pages of walk around images and technical diagrams
  • 5+ pages of camouflage and markings
  • 25+ pages of model builds and modelling information
  • 200+ photographs including wartime images
  • Color side views and four-views by Richard Caruana
  • 3D isometric views of all variants by Jacek Jackiewicz
  • Extensive 1/48 and 1/72 scale kit builds
  • Two sets of fold-out 1/48 scale plans

If you need more information on early Bf 109s than that found in this book, then you're not building a model.  Walk around photos are larger and easier to view than similar format publications.  This book also includes more period factory technical drawings which illustrate specific aircraft features and systems.  Airframe & Miniature No.5  is the most comprehensive and current modeller's guide to the early Messerschmitt. I highly recommend it as well as the previous volumes in the series.

All new P-61 Black Widow In Action from Squadron Signal Publications quick review.

P-61 Black Widow In Action
Stock number: 6800-10226 (Soft Cover)
Price: $18.95

Squadron Signal Publications has released an all new P-61 Black Widow In Action.  It is related to the earlier publication in title only.  Author David Doyle has produced a very nice photographic study of the famous Black Widow.  It is in the current standard "In Action" format and has 80 pages.  This includes 24 pages with color photos.  The balance of the photos are well reproduced black and white images.  8 pages have line drawings illustrating various technical aspects of the aircraft.  The book also has 7 color paintings which provide representative examples of markings utilized on the P-61, two of which grace the front and rear covers of the book respectively.

Photographic coverage is very strong on the technical features of the aircraft.  It is much stronger in this respect compared to Squadron's earlier title.  Photos reveal pilot's cockpit, gunner's position, radar operator's station, G.E. A4 top turret, 20mm cannon bay, radar unit, and more.  There are also some good aerial underside views of the aircraft which show seldom seen aspects of the Black Widow.

I like this book.  It will be a nice inexpensive reference for anyone with an interest in the P-61 series, and especially modellers working on the new Hobby Boss 1/32 or Great Wall 1/48 Widows.
